At this point in time I’m forced to believe that Rick Santorum is really just the world’s greatest performance artist that is super committed to the bit of being this much of a dickhead. I mean that’s what’s going on right?

what this is, is a crafted response that the christian right have been working with for at least a decade—this is how they’ve co-opted the idea of “back of the bus” discrimination against christians, this is how they’ve mobilized with conservative black churches, this is how they’ve worked to target and criminalize the lgbt community—what he’s saying is a *political strategy*—black people can’t *help* being black. so it’s *ok* that *they* were given rights—and in *fact*, we’re just like them! we’ve been moved to the back of the bus too! we want OUR civil rights! and our civil rights are INFRINGED ON—every single time we aren’t allowed to speak out against the gays in school, pray over them in classes, etc.
what he’s saying here is the sloppy ass version of this strategy—but I think it’s fairly essential that we all understand that this is a strategy that’s been in place for at LEAST a decade and it’s *worked* really really fucking well (that is: differentiating between those who “can’t help” their skin color problem and those who “have lifestyles”)—if people have “lifestyles” than they don’t need rights, right?
