man you guys, i was fangirling stephane lambiel in milkeemountainmama’s inbox and then i decided to go watch the program i recommended as a starting place (2008 world’s long program, that passion, that grace, that eyebrow at 0:25), and it turns out stephane lambiel is like the pringles of youtube for me, cannot watch just one. this one i don’t think i’ve ever linked before — it was his short program in the 2006 world’s, where he won his second consecutive world’s gold. obviously a short program’s not going to be as flashy as a long program (and i had sort of forgotten how much i love his long program from that competition also — it kind of gets overshadowed in my mind by the MAGICAL ZEBRA costume, and the fact that in general i prefer his exhibition stuff because if i wanted to see a thousand perfect jump i could watch evan lysacek videos, LOLOLOLOL, it’s the artistry that draws me to stephane, but man, that one is fucking gorgeous too, and i get an involuntary IRL smile every time at that last footwork sequence, which is just pure joy on ice), but there’s something about it i really love. it’s a really high-energy program, and the way he moves his entire body both with such purpose and so freely is just so gorgeous to me. he moves like a dancer, i really think he does (it’s even more impressive watching this and the long program back to back, because there he has a subdued grace that has a very different energy from this). you can always tell watching him that he is just so fucking thrilled to be doing what he’s doing, it animates his every motion. and again, his closing footwork sequences i always adore even more than his famous (incredible) spins — there’s just something so playful and creative about them.
