Leonard Cohen - “Please Don’t Pass Me By (A Disgrace) (Live)” (by ketologuot)

To borrow a metaphor from a field never too far from Cohen’s heart, theology, Morrison, Hendrix, Joplin, and the rest were all good Christians, and they set themselves up as the redeemers who had to die for the sins of their fans. Cohen was a Jew, and like Jews he believed that salvation was nothing more than a lot of hard work and a small but sustainable reward.

This is really good, guys. Leibovitz is apparently working on a book about Cohen, and I will read the hell out of it.

oh, that article was lovely.

  3. davebloom said: The reading of Cohen is a nice stand-alone point, but this dichotomy doesn’t really hold up. Even if fans treated them as messiah figures, Hendrix, Joplin, and Morrison didn’t really ‘set themselves up’ as such (esp. existentialist-leaning Morrison).
